Netflix is ending support for second and third-generation Apple TVs, meaning its app will stop working on those set-top boxes as of July 31.
The second and third-generation models are quite old, however, launched in 2010 and 2012 respectively, and are no longer supported by Apple. These set-top boxes predate Apple's set-top box overhaul, where it introduced tvOS, an App Store, and the Siri Remote.
Netflix has been emailing affected subscribers. If you haven't received an email, you shouldn't be affected. The Netflix app will naturally continue to work on all newer Apple TVs, including the Apple TV HD, and all Apple TV 4K models.
If you have received an email from Netflix, the best option is upgrading to a new streaming device. You could always opt for the latest Apple TV 4K, which has a recommended retail price of $219.
Or if you want to venture outside of the Apple ecosystem, there are options like Amazon's Fire TV family - such as the Fire TV Cube -, a Google Chromecast, or even a Hubbl set-top box. If you've upgraded your TV since buying your old Apple TV, there's even a chance it has a Netflix app installed.
